About
Clinical Research

Clinical research studies seek to advance and improve treatment options for a variety of conditions, including IgA nephropathy (IgAN).

They are designed to answer questions about the safety and effectiveness of potential new medications.

Quick Facts

Clinical research studies must be performed before a new medication or treatment can be approved for use and made available to the public.
There are common traits that people must have to participate in a study, called eligibility criteria. Common criteria include age, sex, medical history, and other medical conditions.
Right now, there are more than 500,000 research studies registered around the world looking at a variety of health conditions.1

Why Diversity Matters in Clinical Research

Once approved, medications are prescribed for people of all different ages, genders, races, and ethnicities. However, minority groups are currently underrepresented in clinical research studies. Because medications can work differently in different people, diversity is particularly important in clinical research studying a variety of diseases and conditions. While the biopharmaceutical industry continues to make strides, there is a lot more work to be done to ensure clinical research studies are diverse, inclusive, and more reflective of the patients they serve.
